Meet Dengdeng, an affectionate domestic shorthair cat I adopted through the NYC Animal Care Center. This charming feline has been my constant companion, providing unconditional support throughout my Ph.D. journey.

It is a misconception that shelter animals are often abandoned or surrendered due to behavioral issues. In fact, the majority of them are loving and loyal companions. Unfortunately, shelters across the United States are nearing a breaking point. With the pandemic waning and inflation on the rise, the number of “pandemic pets” being surrendered is increasing.

If you're seeking a furry friend to keep you company while you work on your outstanding papers or join casual Zoom meetings, consider starting your search at a nearby shelter. And if you're in the vibrant city of New York, pay a visit to the  NYC ACC  – your may find your new family member(s) there!
